I am very happy to inform you that we launch the 350 Campaign this week by registering our actions on the 350.org web site and participating in a 30 min talk-show programme focused on climate change at Burundi National Radio last Tuesday.

Less than 100 days ahead to the crucial date, I had a great opportunity to tell the listeners about climate change causes and impacts in Burundi, Africa and all over the world. More specifically, I explained why 350ppm is the safest target to reach and why people should take action on October 24.

At the moment, two organizations have already confirmed their participation on October 24, a day of mobilization and action all over the world will stand together as one planet and call for a fair global climate treaty.

In Burundi, we are planning to organize different events including conferences, educational programmes, movies watching, tree-plantings, etc. This list is not exhaustive. That’s why we call upon all individuals and organizations (academic institutions, associations, local groups, NGOs, media, etc) to come and join us in the building of the movement. Your ideas and expertise will be much appreciated.

Remember our message is simple: “The atmosphere has right now 387 parts per million CO2. The world’s leading climate scientists have clearly stated that the safest level of CO2 is 350 parts per million. This is the point where we need to get back”. To achieve this, urgent and resolute action is needed to prevent the catastrophic destabilization of global climate. So, the entire world have to move as rapidly as possible to a stronger emissions reductions treaty which is both equitable and effective in minimizing dangerous climate change. Our mission by organizing October 24 is to influence Burundi negotiators before they leave for Copenhagen where crucial Climate Change Talks are due to take place in December.

Dear friends, the movement has just begun, and it needs your help. Please, contact us at amahoroclub@gmail.com at tell us what your contribution can be.
